I wondered today about the timing regarding the disclosure of IUPUI’s natatorium badly-leaky roof. A WTHR story late last week showed widespread and significant water damage, with gaping holes where wallboard has rotted out.

Just a month before (almost to the day), they were getting all giddy out on West Michigan St. about the successful Wishard referendum and the soon-to-be-acquired buildings that Wishard will turn over to them in 2 year’s time.

Judging by Wishard CEO Matt Gutwein’s assements, there will need to be significant cash poured into renovating (or demolishing?) those buildings before anything productive will be realized by the university. But now we learn that IUPUI can’t scrape up the cash to repair the natatorium and clearly has not been able to maintain it properly for quite some time.

Huh?

Sounds like they should have said ‘No, thanks’ back when Matt Gutwein decided to give his hand-me-down property to them.

Or maybe this is part of a well-choreographed plan to move money from one pocket to the other, extract $15M from everybody’s sugardaddy, the CIB, and balance out the expense of dealing with the old Wishard carcass once Wishard abandons it?

Is this their payoff for backing the Wishard referendum?
