Well, I don’t know about the details of that. But i expect it is another instance of what we see happen all the time anymore. One company buying another, leveraging their size to go deeper into debt while giving their executive team a reason/excuse to pay themselves many millions of dollars more. Then the customers find they get poorer service, pay more fees, and become less satisfied with the mega corporation.

And then they seem to become ‘too big to fail’ although they ARE failing.

But hey, somebody will get a new sidewalk out of it.

I still say this is a ploy/scam to later be able to sell all of Citizen’s to Vectren. Vectren has been salivating for Citizen’s for years and I am sure there will be some fine print in this deal that will allow it to happen at some later date. It is NEVER supposed to happen due to the terms that Citizen’s was established under by the likes of Eli Lilly and Benjamin Harrison, but just watch Vectren is going to get their grubby hands on all of this GAS & water before it is all over. Then it will truly be all over for ratepayers of both utilities.

Ryan Vaughn got his clock cleaned in this debate. It’s such a farce to claim that this is money the City is receiving “up-front” from a “sale.” Rather than the City borrowing the money, Citizens is. We the public is goin to have to pay back that money.

Fortunately for Vaughn the issue of paying for 10 year improvements with a 30 year loan didn’t come up. He has no answer for that.

Ryan only says what Tom John tells him to say. Johns law firm stands to make millions on this deal.

Maybe someone should look into that situation.A alternative life style man that is calling the shots. How interesting. Has anyone given Tom John a blood test lately after returning from his Phish tour?

I’d like to see this question posed on a referendum question written BY THE PEOPLE to an informed public without the sell and spin of the city’s lawyers and lobbyists.

It is simply irresponsible to hold future utility rates for services as vital to human survival as heat and water to this deal.

I can walk on a crumbling sidewalk, but I can’t go without water or heat.

THIS IS A PENDING NIGHTMARE FOR THE PEOPLE of our city whom many are already struggling to pay their utilities.

I have suddenly realized what the Mayor, et al., are trying to do, and that is to copy the Toll Road deal, line for line.

Where this totally and horribly breaks down is that the infusion of cash doesn’t come from a MacQuarie Cintra outside investor.

It comes directly from the monies which ratepayers have put into Citizen’s Gas, expressly for operating and maintaining our utility.

And the spin being put on it is that the Mayor prestidigitates $450 million dollars for other purposes, BECAUSE WE ARE GONNA ‘SAVE’ $1.45 Billion.

Well then, by NOT sidecarring that $450 Million, the transfer of IWC to Citizen’s would SAVE $1.9 BILLION. That’s even better!

What this proposed deal amounts to is robbing Peter to pay Paul. It most certainly doesn’t CREATE $450 Million for the Mayor to play with.

You’re exactly right. These debts don’t just magically go away, as some people like to think they are. They’re just being transferred from the city (public) to Citizens Energy Group (representing the public as a public charitable trust).
