Constitution Warning Label

This is just extraordinary, a warning label applied to copies of the US Constitution and other significant documents from the period.

Per a FOX News.com story Publishing Company Under Fire for Putting Warning Label on Constitution:

Wilder Publications warns readers of its reprints of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Common Sense, the Articles of Confederation, and the Federalist Papers, among others, that “This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today.”

The disclaimer goes on to tell parents that they “might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.”

Trashbin + contents

Oh, joy. We get to start using the gigantic ‘free from the DPW’ trash bins this week. They make it clear these are provided gratis, but that we will pay for the next one if we need another.

The don’t make it clear ‘how’ they are ‘free.’ One explanation has been they are ‘paid for out of the savings’ that automated pickup is alleged to produce. The other is that there’s a company which incinerates our trash for profit, and they picked up the tab. Who do we believe? I think they got that advice from the folks who tell us we will make $425 million by selling the water company to ourselves.

And while we are pondering that question, let’s toss in a side note – we bought $3,300,000 worth of new, specially equipped trash trucks with a big claw-arm that can pick up and dump the new bins. They say we are saving money by spending 3 million. Somehow.

Hurrah for the new trash bins. So shall I put it out every week, or just once every 5 or 6 weeks – when I fill it up?

Police are calling a shooting at 36th and Chester St this afternoon a possible carjacking. The driver was shot twice in the head and is in critical condition at Wishard.
