Hmmm, a street that has always been open to public travel is now long-term leased to Indianapolis Downtown Inc., a private ‘Not for Profit’ organization.
This occurred just in time for the Super Bowl, naturally.
But what does it mean? The street is no longer a wide-open public space. It is under the control of a private entity. So technically they can control who has access to it, and when. Presumably, they can fence it off and control who can enter the space and how much it costs for that privilege.
I guess we shall see. But I expect this much-ballyhooed site, sold to us as a ‘public gathering place’ will suddenly become rather private.
